Long Beach
A bigger, more urban harbor city with real neighborhood range.
Long Beach is a different kind of coastal city than the rest of this list — bigger, more urban, and technically in Los Angeles County rather than Orange County, but close enough to Seal Beach and the OC coast that it's part of the same everyday orbit for a lot of buyers. It trades small-beach-town scale for real neighborhood diversity, a working harbor, and generally more affordable coastal living.
Belmont Shore, Naples, and beyond
Belmont Shore is Long Beach's answer to a walkable beach village — Second Street's shops and restaurants a block from the sand. Naples Island, just next door, is genuinely unique: man-made canals, gondola rides, and waterfront homes packed onto a few small islands. Beyond those two, Long Beach spreads into distinct pockets with very different character, from historic Craftsman neighborhoods to downtown high-rises near the marina.
What's everyday life like in Long Beach?
Long Beach has a bigger-city energy than anywhere else on this list — a real downtown, the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Queen Mary, an active arts and restaurant scene, and a working port that shapes the local economy. It's also more architecturally and culturally diverse, with pockets of historic homes you won't find in the newer-built OC beach cities.
What should buyers know about Long Beach?
Because Long Beach is so neighborhood-dependent, price and character can shift dramatically block to block — Naples and Belmont Shore carry real premiums for water access and walkability, while inland neighborhoods offer significantly more value. If you're used to Orange County's coastal price points, Long Beach is often where that budget goes further without giving up beach access.
